Went camping this weekend with our kiddies and some wonderful friends. I think Ingrid will be talking about our camping adventure a bit more this week but I just wanted to throw this out there as it’s been on my mind with the weekend drawing to a close. This evening, I was chatting about some of the high points of the weekend with our friend Sarah and we both agreed that as much of a blast camping is, it’s alot of work — especially with four kids, all 5 yrs and under, who are doing this for the first time. Yup…got a bit challenging at times…

And yet despite the seemingly endless “extras” that we have to bring along and the additional planning we have to do (like kids’ naps, extra snacks, extra extra extra clothes, sunscreen galore, sippy cups, and the occasional tear from being over tired, scraped-up, or otherwise) it is so worth it. We agreed that experiencing the outdoors and building memories through even the slightest bit of “roughing it” seems to have such lasting effects on our kids, on our families.

Maybe my kids won’t love being outdoors as much as I do; maybe they will. But I’m glad to know that we’ve chosen to teach our kids that we will always adventure together; that we’ll work hard and play hard together. I know that our family will have some tough times and some absolutely joyous and fun times to come; whether it’s camping or anything else, I’m excited for our next adventure.
